According to witnesses, a road worker who was hit by a driver while on the job on a Florida road was severely injured. The accident took place on the evening of Nov. 19.
Police say that two workers were unloading signs from a truck on Kendall Drive in Miami while wearing reflective vests when one of them was hit by a silver Ford Taurus. The man was pinned between the Taurus and a pickup. He was conscious but had severe injuries to his legs, and witnesses report that his legs appeared to be severed.
The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital, but his current condition was not reported. One witness reported that the speed limit around the construction site was no more than 40 mph. It is unclear whether or not the Taurus driver will face any criminal charges.
In a construction accident like this one, an individual could be entitled to worker’s compensation benefits due to being injured on the job. A workers’ compensation claim is designed to help employees recover the cost of their medical care expenses, lost wages and possible vocational rehabilitation. Moreover, in some situations, an individual might also be able to bring a lawsuit against a third party responsible for his or her injuries. An attorney might be able to work with an injured worker to discuss the best options given the particular circumstances in his or her case as well as help identify if a lawsuit is warranted in addition to a workers’ compensation claim.
