A 30-year-old man suffered severe injuries and was reportedly intubated at Jackson Memorial Hospital after being hit by a truck on June 4. According to reports, the man was riding a scooter when he was hit by the truck on Red Road and Southwest 8th Street. The truck was allegedly speeding and ran a red light prior to the accident.
Court records and statements from family members say that the man suffered injuries to his head, face and legs, and a prosecutor in the case said that the man may not be able to recover. The alleged driver of the truck was a 49-year-old male who police say was intoxicated at the time of the accident. It was reported that the man did not stop after hitting the man on the scooter.
Police eventually caught up to the man in the truck and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol and for leaving the scene of an accident. The man was located at his mother’s house after due to a tip from a woman who was in the truck at the time of the hit-and-run. The man was ordered held on $15,000 bond and will also have to see a felony judge before he has any possibility of being released.
