4-year-old girl dies from blood loss caused by dog bite

Many Florida parents are aware of the dangers that pit bulls pose to young children. One family in another state is grieving the loss of a young girl after at least two of their three pit bulls attacked the child, causing massive blood loss.

The local animal control is observing the two males and one female after the attack, which occurred on the evening of Jan. 17 in Illinois. The 4-year-old girl was on the main floor of her two-story home when she told her grandmother, who was babysitting her and her 2-year-old sister, “that one of the dogs hurt her.” The woman attempted to separate the girl from the dogs, but the pit bulls turned on her.

The grandmother was not injured, but the girl suffered injuries to her arms, neck and head. She was taken to a local hospital, but she died in the emergency room from massive blood loss. The dogs are under quarantine for 10 days. It is believed that the males were the ones who initiated the attack. If the family does not want the dogs euthanized, then the city and courts will make the final decision regarding their fate.

A dog bite can cause serious injury or even death, as seen in this sad story. In many cases, dog bites are caused by a victim’s own dogs. However, there are situations in which an unfamiliar dog can get loose and attack a person. In these cases, the victim can sue the dog owner for personal injury. Compensation from a lawsuit can help victims pay for medical bills, lost wages, disfigurement and other damages.
