Many hit-and-run accidents end with a person fleeing the accident scene and getting away with a crime. Although a man’s leg was severed in a recent Florida accident, the woman who had injured the man and fled the scene was found by police. The Miami woman now faces multiple charges.
The accident occurred on Dec. 16. The 31-year-old woman was driving a Ford Explorer when she hit the 48-year-old man. The woman panicked and fled the scene without stopping to help. She left her vehicle at her grandmother’s house. Police were able to find her and arrest her.
The man suffered serious personal injury. He was unconscious after he was hit. His leg is partially severed. It is able to be saved, but it will require multiple surgeries. The man is also in a lot of pain. His son also suffered minor injuries in the accident.
The woman was charged with hit and run, and driving with a suspended license. The damage caused to her vehicle was extensive. It suffered front-end damage as well as a broken windshield. The vehicle also had blood on it from the victim. The woman, a mother of two girls, does not have a job and cannot afford an attorney. Her bond is set at $25,000.
Many people panic after an accident, but leaving an accident scene is the last thing you want to do. Although people may think they can outsmart the police and won’t get caught, many people do. When they do, they face serious penalties. Besides the criminal charges, the woman may be sued by the victim so he can receive compensation for medical bills.
